Fall Lipstick Faves #3: The Violets

Last but not least of my Fall Lipstick Faves series features the violets: aka the plums, purples, whatever you prefer to call it. I'm not one to wear this type of shade for lipsticks. Usually, I like red, pink, reddish-coral or reddish-brown. Okay...scratch that. During my junior year in high school, I loved this particular violet shade of Milani lipstick (I forgot which one) that I would wear to school sometimes. That was a time of me being pretty experimental beauty and fashion wise (I swear I will never bleach my hair blonde again).

Despite me entering the workforce soon, I do like bold colors. Purple is definitely an "out of comfort" zone shade to wear, and not a shade you see people wearing on the regular. And if they do, it's usually mauve or pinkish. I can relate, because some of my shades featured do lean on the pink side as well, but are also very wearable for fall. Just be sure to keep your eyes subtle to balance out the saturation of the lips! So here the swatches of my favorite violet lipsticks!

MAC Captive is one of the more underrated MAC lipsticks out there. It's a satin finish, so it has strong staying power without being uncomfortably drying, like the matte finish. This season is the perfect time to wear it, and I have a feeling I'll find myself reaching for this more often. I got this during Black Friday last year and wore it quite a bit during winter, so it makes sense right? I even wrote a review here (and a great dupe for MAC Captive is Milani Plumrose!)

Next is the NYX Butter Lipstick (Hunk). I haven't used this a lot yet but I definitely want to, and tis the perfect season for it! I have a few Butter lipsticks I haven't used in a while which is a shame because I do love the colors and the formula, it's SO soft and moisturizing but it's not sheer...you need moisture as the temperatures drop.

No matter how many of NYX Soft Matte lip creams I have, I always come back to the shade Prague. It's in-between pink and violet, depending on the season. Actually, this summer after I went to Hawaii, it showed up as hot pink on my tan skin! But it is one of those shades that's PERFECT for all year round. It's dark enough to wear now, but I also wrote about it here, featuring the spring pink lipsticks. Some lipsticks are like a chameleon, huh? Also, the Soft Matte lip creams are known for being patchy, but not Prague! It glides on very smoothly

Now we have to talk about the NYX Intense Butter Gloss (Spice Cake). To be honest, I am not a huge fan of the shades of the Intense Butter Glosses, probably because they look weird on my skin tone. But Spice Cake is shade in the line. It's more daring than the ones I just talked about, but oh my—I can't get enough of this jewel tone!

Now there is the Hikari Lip Gloss (Merlot), which I got in the August 2015 Ipsy Glambag. I thought it was similar to the Intense Butter Gloss, but the swatch shows otherwise. Nevertheless, it's also a very beautiful jewel-toned shade.

And last but not least we have the most daring of them all, the Too Faced Melted Metal liquid lipstick (Jelly). This one totally packs a punch more than the other shades. It's more moisturizing than the regular Too Faced Melted lipsticks and has specks of shimmer. I would say that this is Barney's shade, haha. Famous Youtube beauty blogger Dulce Candy is a HUGE fan of Melted Metal Jelly, and you can watch her video reviewing and demo-ing all the shades here. I have to trust her on that because we almost have the same skin tone and it just looks so ravishing on her!
